CKD Therapy - Beyond Diet and Fluids

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) in dogs and cats requires more than just dietary adjustments and fluid therapy. This course explores practical approaches to managing CKD that go beyond the basics. You’ll review IRIS staging and treatment guidelines, then dive into therapeutic strategies for hypertension, proteinuria, and gastrointestinal complications.

We’ll explore the gut-kidney axis, dysbiosis, and the potential role of probiotics, as well as the critical importance of phosphate control. Learn how to incorporate FGF-23 testing in feline patients, evaluate phosphate binding options, and address hypokalemia management. By the end of this session, you’ll gain tools to better support CKD patients and enhance their quality of life.
